Maya Angelou is one of America’s leading literary voices of the last 50 years. She is known as a Poet, author and activist. She died today 28th of May 2014 at the age of 86. She is a role model on all accounts.

Maya Angelou was raised by her grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas, She was raped by her Mother’s boyfriend at the age of eight, did not speak following her ordeal for the next 5 years. She later began her career in writing after a spell at other jobs.

Her first book amongst many others ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,’ spent two years on the US best-seller list.

She was indeed an inspiration to us all. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace!
