India Gary-Martin- managing director, global COO, investment banking tech & operations at JP Morgan

India Gary-Martin is one of the most outstanding women in the competitive field of IT. She has been able to excel in a field that many women shy away from. In her current role at JPMorgan she is responsible for managing the strategic agenda for the 13,000 person Technology & Operations division of the Global Investment Bank.

She began working at JP Morgan in 2010. She had performed various senior technology roles as well as non-IT ones in other prestigious banks, for instance, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lehman Brothers. Her experience spans 20 years in sales and trading, and technology and operations, as well.

Despite her achievements, she has put her energy into reversing the situation where only a few females choose careers in IT. After joining JP Morgan, she was requested to be a role model in the profession of technology, and she now gives back to community by fostering and developing talents in IT for females at her company and in the general public too. More companies are willing to employ more women in technology professions. Though the competition is fierce, her concern is how to make IT attract more women. At JP Morgan, women are greatly encouraged by the extra effort put into ensuring that they are retained.

Outside her duties at JP Morgan, she is also chair of the Board of Trustees of LEAP (Local Employment Access Projects), a UK-based charity, and the president of the City Women’s Network (CWN), an organization comprised of the most senior women in industry around the UK.

India Gary-Martin has won awards including the Women in banking and Finance’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to Diversity’ and ‘Best Female Technologist’ for all her hard work. In 2010, she was listed as one of the most influential black women in the UK and BRM-UK agrees with that.
