A systems analyst could be employed by a company or work for an external client to examine their IT systems and processes, design new IT solutions to improve business efficiency and productivity. Generally speaking, systems analysts study clients’ systems requirements, write comprehensive programs and system specifications to meet these requirements, then finally consult with the users of the system to ensure higher production.

Applications system analysts undertake design tasks for specific applications. For example a business computer application or system may include the development of a new payroll or stock control system.

Software analysts work in the area of design and modification of the operating environment software that links computer software and hardware.

Systems architects examine the hardware requirements that support systems implementation across personal computers, mainframes or networks.

Business systems analysts study the overall business and information needs of an organization, in order to develop solutions to business and related technology problems.

  • presenting proposals to clients
Entry Requirements

To work as a systems analyst you normally need a BTEC HNC/HND (Diploma) or a degree, backed up with industry experience. Below are some relevant subjects that system analysts study
